Day 10 – Palmerston North to Wellington.

After a wonderful sleep and drenching rain overnight, we finally made our way. Late departure – 10.30am but it was so nice to chat with our B&B hosts Ingrid & Aaron. Headed south to find a Hat Felting & Printing Place, only to find it closed.

The rain finally eased as we continued our journey towards Wellington. There must have had extremely high rainfall overnight as many parts of the highway were still slightly flooded. However, soon, the sun came out and the remainder of the day remained just beautiful, though chilly.

Found our Motel by the seaside (thanks to Mad Betty) she did direct us here correctly. Not so, earlier in the day, she took us to a dead end. Of course there is no murmur of apology!

We were naughty today and did not venture back into town. The traffic is just crazy and of course drive too fast for us country bumpkins. Just walked a few streets to stretch our legs and found some Warehouses to buy warm shoes, socks and gigantic umbrellas.

Looks like we will need our brollies for the weather prediction for the next week in the South Island is much rain. No matter, we are on holidays!

We took our evening walk along the beach. This one allows all dogs off leashes and let them romp and play. Also ventured onto this long wharf where there were many frustrated fishermen. Of course they were lots of kids having just sheer kid-fun. Jumping off this very high wharf into the sea…..brrrr they are crazy! (We were rugged up in our woollies) What a delightful happy friendly group they were. Trivia…we have never seen such huge sea gulls as here. Terry reckons they could be  Arctic Skuas!  Hmmm?

Early to bed for us, have to be at the Interislander Ferry by 7.15am.
